Jayce Castillo is a person in her mid-twenties living in Albuquerque, New Mexico, who is experiencing extreme grief 5–6 years after her parents’ deaths. She works an office job during the day and finds herself most troubled by thoughts of her jazz-musician parents, Alonzo and Luisa, when life becomes still—in the early mornings or late at night. One day, after stumbling upon a piece of music written by her parents—titled "Siren"—Jayce is compelled to show it to her boyfriend, Blue, who expresses interest in the mysterious composition. As Jayce draws inspiration from the piece to search for deeper meaning in art, life, and self-expression, Blue sees an opportunity to steal the music. While Jayce takes care of her Aunt Alba at the request of her cousin Adrian, Blue plans to record his version of "Siren" with his quartet. Jayce hurtles toward a breakthrough in understanding her place in the world without her parents’ guidance, while Blue hopes for his own breakthrough in his musical career.
