In Nazi-occupied France, a Jewish man named Albert breaks into the attic of an affluent couple’s mansion to hide. He soon finds Benjamin, also a Jewish man who seems to have been there for some time. Through a hole in the attic floorboards, both the men watch a French couple eat their warm three-course meals, day by day. They both hide as silently as possible, avoiding alerting the couple downstairs yet time is against them as they slowly run out of food and hope.
