Logline: ‘RISS’ is a candid, mixed media exploration into the life of newly-Olympic pro surfer Carissa Moore, peeling back the layers and exploring her sense of purpose.
Synopsis: In his new film ‘RISS’, Hamblin captures an animated vignette of pro-surfer Carissa Moore. She was the youngest ever World Champion and a talent that has gone on to win four world titles. Her success has met challenges along the way, which forced her to reassess her goals and understand what truly makes her happy. At her core, she is driven by love; to give and receive love, which she defines as Moore Aloha (more love). He captures a raw and electric look behind the curtain of a high-class competitive surfer. This film hangs out with Carissa during her 2019 competitive year, where for the first time in three years she is back in the title race, happy and focused.
Hamblin’s drive for both style and substance has set his work apart from most sport documentaries, which often include archive footage on repeat. Hamblin uses mixed-media to not only inform but entertain even the non-surfers of the world. It’s about telling a story, be it real or fiction, in a revolutionary, thrilling and visual way.
